Is it worth pursuing an official diagnosis? I tore my hip labrum and the orthopedist did the ten point test with me and told me that I am hypermobile. He was somewhat entertained, honestly. He said I could talk to a geneticist if I would like to. I am wondering if I would find that to be worthwhile or not.

Laura, I highly recommend that people see a hypermobility physician specialist whenever possible as that person hopefully has the training and time to perform a proper, thorough evaluation (in my opinion, that should always be in person - you cannot feel skin over a video). That person might be a geneticist but could also be another type of physician. Any physician can make the diagnosis and many of us order genetic testing when we feel it is indicated. I will also add this to my AMA list for the next solo episode because although I have answered this question on the podcast before, my opinion has changed over time and seeing more patients. I hope that helps.
